1 · Evidence notes
English sample notes: separate observed work, future intentions and missing evidence. The situation is invented for teaching.
- Student portfolio exercise for a fictional household; no client assets.
- Student noticed the brief required access to funds for a planned expense.
- Wants investment research supporting portfolio decisions, eventually broader client-objective responsibility.
- Preparation and fallback plan: In preparing for research roles, I would practise describing an investment option alongside the objective and constraints it might serve. I plan to write short comparisons that include access to funds and the uncertainty around the return assumption, then seek feedback on the explanation. If a portfolio research role is not immediately available, a junior investment-support position could provide relevant experience. I would check the actual duties rather than assume that proximity to clients means responsibility for their portfolios. My first aim is to become dependable in a defined part of the research process.
- Progress check: I would review my explanations with more experienced colleagues and track which assumptions I need to investigate before forming a view.
- Analysis: short fictional household brief, limited choices, planned expense overlooked while comparing returns. Student helped separate near-term funds from the longer objective. No actual assets or performance record.
